Your best bet is to contact Singer directly with the serial number and model number: http://www.singerco.com/company/contact_us.html They will also be able to help you with the mystery of the copyright dates and the serial number dating in the 1947/48 timeframe.
The second best way would be to go with just the serial number: Here is a website to help date your sewing machine. but you can look up the serial number to get the year it was manufactured.

Another way to find out the value of your machine is to call a local sewing machine dealer and ask if they have a blue book for sewing machines...If they are willing to help you, they can give you the years of manufacturing of the model and the blue book price.
